Charles Malata

The Team

Professor Malata works with a skilled, caring and committed team including his consultant anaesthetist (Dr. Andrew Bailey FRCA), private secretary & PA (Glenys Ellwood), and the specialist cosmetic surgery nurses. Professor Malata and his team always endeavour to give you the highest standards of advice, treatment and support. They are also committed to making your operation first and foremost a safe and ultimately satisfying experience.

At all three private hospitals, Professor Malata has dedicated and experienced specialist cosmetic surgery nurses who run the dressings clinics and provide on-going advice and support. They are supported by the ward nursing staff who look after cosmetic surgery patients from day to day.

For operations carried out under general anaesthesia in Cambridge, Professor Malata works with Dr. Andrew Bailey, an experienced and senior consultant anaesthetist. Dr Bailey, who has worked closely with Professor Malata for over 10 years, remains an integral member of the team. He is particularly experienced in anaesthetic techniques for Cosmetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. He is the Chief of Anaesthesia at Addenbrooke’s Hospital of the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Information about your consultant Anaesthetist and general advice will be made available to patients pre-operatively in preparation for their surgery.

Depending on the operation you are having, the hospitals run pre-admission clinics a week or two prior to surgery to assess your general health and address any major medical problems you might have. These clinics are designed to provide you with general advice about preparing for your operation and to also give you an opportunity to visit the ward and meet the nurses who will look after you during your stay. MRSA swabs can also be taken at this point in time. This also provides us with a chance to perform blood tests and any other investigations that may be required before your operation.
