Charles Malata - Research

 

Professor Malata has an active academic and clinical research interest and this is undertaken in the context of clinical work. He also supervises the research projects of plastic surgery trainees, PhD students and medical students. He served as the Plastic Surgery departmental “Research Coordinator” (2006-2014). He was also invited to be an Honorary Senior Clinical Research Fellow with the Medical Research Council/ University of Cambridge Clinical School (2006-2011). He is currently collaborating with Cancer Research Institute scientists on the “Adult Breast Stem Cells Study”. He supports the scientists of the National Institute for Health Research National Cancer Research Network on the ARTemis/ Neoadjuvant chemotherapy in immediate breast reconstruction study. He is part of the Anglia Breast Group of researchers at the Postgraduate Medical Institute of Anglia Ruskin University. 

His career research work, following 3 years in a research laboratory, has been presented at more than 100 International and National Scientific Meetings. Professor Malata’s publications include 24 invited book chapters and review articles, over 10f peer-reviewed (Malata PubMed) papers and numerous journal abstracts (see below for details). His research work and publications are principally on cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, face and neck surgery, microvascular free flap reconstruction and aesthetic surgery. His current clinical research serves to identify key areas for improvement in patient care and elucidate best practice.
